My mother would have kicked my butt...

I was at work the other day and a 12 year old girl was stalling on picked out what her mom was going to buy for her. The mom said "Honey, we need to get going to pick up your brother from practice." To which the girl replied, "Mom-Shut up! I'm going to find something!" Do you know what the mother said? "Oh ok sweetheart."
Excuse me?WTH? and other responses that require a shocked look and questions with a raised tone in my voice? My mother would have kicked my butt all the way to the brother's practice and then all the way home and continue kicking my butt for at least the next week. Not to mention she would tell my father who would continue to kick my butt after my mom got tired!
Now let me clarify something here. My parents never laid a hand on me or literally kicked my butt. Did I think they would and in fact could? Heck yes! Did that thought within me make me a polite, caring child? Heck yes! And did that same thing carry over into my adulthood.(you really should know the answer by now)
Now I have children. Teenage boys to be exact. Do they talk to me or there father like that? Nope. Do they talk to anyone like that. Nope. Why? Because they are afraid I will kick their butt!
I find myself thinking as I am writing this, "Kids now a days, why in my day I would never talk to anyone like that much less my own mother!" That sounds like I'm 80 years old right now! And no I didn't walk 5 miles to school both ways up a hill when I was younger. I am only 38 years old but I find myself thinking this about kids now a days more and more. Maybe its because my kids know how to act and in fact get compliments on their behavior. I see a lot of pre-teens and teens in my line of work and so many of them are really rude

Then again maybe I am just getting old and I should go play Bingo and eat dinner at 4pm every night....
